The Beckman Center houses the following facilities:

Munzer Hall

Munzer Hall is a fully equipped, 100-person capacity lecture hall located on the ground floor of the Beckman Center in Room B060.

Usage Policy

Academic departments and facilities within Beckman get first priority for scheduling. Food and drink is not allowed in Munzer; however, speakers are welcome to bring a glass of water to the podium.

Room Features

Named for Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Munzer, generous contributors to the construction of the Beckman Center, the room can be reserved for classes, seminars, meetings, cultural events, or trade shows. Equipment includes:

  • 100-person seating capacity, with disabled seating available
  • Large front stage (8 ft. x 17 ft.)
  • Fixed theater-style seating
  • Stereo acoustics with sound controls
  • White board (colored markers included)
  • Lighting controls
  • Video and computer projection capability, with podium controls
  • Projection room with slide projector (dual slide projection not available)
  • Cart with two overhead projectors
  • Internet hookup (10baseT)
  • Standard wooden pointer (please bring your own laser pointer)
  • Conveniently located next to the Beckman Bistro

Fermentation Lab

The Roger Kornberg lab currently maintains a 200-liter fermenter, a 14-liter fermenter and two continuous flow centrifuges in the fermentation lab. The 200-liter fermenter is primarily used to grow yeast for our biochemical and structural studies. The 14-liter fermenter is used to grow smaller amounts of yeast or for high-density cultures of bacteria. Use of either fermenter is by appointment only. We do charge a fee to cover our maintainance costs and the cost of our tech's time. Anyone interested in learning more should contact:

Equipment Shop

The Stanford Equipment Shop is managed by engineer David Profitt and is located on the first floor of the Beckman Center, B133. David assists researchers in developing unique and innovative solutions for their research projects, as well as diagnosing and repairing equipment. He specializes in electronic and mechanical design, prototype fabrication, machine shop, material selection, and equipment repair. Contact David at profitt@stanford.edu for an appointment to discuss your needs. Hours are billed by journal transfer to your project.

Beckman Bistro

The Beckman Bistro specializes in fresh Mex and is located on the ground floor of the Beckman Center near Munzer Hall. Tables with umbrellas are available for outdoor seating. Breakfast and lunch are served Mon-Fri.
